The Opera
My Data and Me: Una Storia d'Amore is under development through the
European Commission's SciArt Program, where artists team with the EC's research
experts to build collaborative projects, that combine artistic and
scientific disciplines.
Utilising the theme of
love and critiquing the traditions and structures of opera, My Data and Me is a satirical
romp through a dystopian future and the relationship between human and
non-human, with a full libretto in English and Italian.
Following one year of development, the first prototype was presented at
the Joint Research Centre, Ispra, Italy, in October 2019.

Story of a Development:
My Data and Me was developed as part of the Europea Commission's Resonances 3 festival
- an exhibition of art/science collaborations, with the involvement of
scientists Joint Research Centre (JRC) - the main research arm of the
European Commission.
In
developing the opera, Tomasz Prasqual (Composer) and Richard Pettifer
(Director, Libretto) worked with the HUMAINT team at JRC Seville - a
research team dedicated to Human-Machine relations.

Developing 'Jabel'
Jabel is
the world's first opera robot. Designed to replicate the functioning of
an opera singer without the aesthetics, he (she? they) can sing at up
to 100db - the same volume as an average human baritone.
Jabel has a synthetic voice developed by Voctolabs (Barcelona), and vehicular movement designed and produced by Frank Fietzek (Berlin).
The Ensemble: Electronic ID
Electronic ID is an ensemble based in Cologne, Germany.
Through
rehearsing the prototype of the opera with soprano Francesca Martini,
Electronic ID helped to shape the initial platform for the opera in
energised and experimental sessions.
Proudly developed with the Joint Research Centre, Ispra/Seville.
